Tammy McCormick Donaldson received her MS from Washington State University in 2002 and is currently completing a PhD in Animal Science/Animal Behavior. Her dissertation topic is the behavioral mechanisms of aggression towards humans in the domestic dog. She has completed a comprehensive array of coursework including veterinary anatomy and physiology, neurobiology, psychopharmacology, animal learning, and ethology. Her current research projects include, temperament testing for human-directed aggression and interpretation of canine body language. Tammy has worked as a student consultant at the WSU Behavior Service and has taught a number of dog training classes. In 2004, she graduated from the San Francisco SPCA Academy for Dog Trainers and completed a research internship. Tammy has consulted with a number of shelters and rescue organizations, including the San Francisco SPCA, on the implementation of temperament testing and training programs.

Tammy enjoys working with a number of species. Her Masters thesis was on play behavior of pigs. She has taught and assisted in teaching Animal Science courses including nutrition, horse production, and animal welfare. She has owned her own consultation business since 2001 and she lives and works in Vallejo, CA with her husband, daughter and canine friends Mojo and Aloysius.

Services:

  • In-home behavior evaluation and consultation for pet behavior problems (Tammy is currently not seeing clients as she is on leave raising her daughter until 2007. She is available for other services.)

  • Consultation and assistance for shelters and rescue organizations on temperament testing and behavior programs

  • Educational seminars for shelter workers, students and training professionals
